Japanese scholarships awarded to Lao students

VIENTIANE,MACH 22 (KPL) - A send-off reception for twenty-one Lao students who will start studying in Japan in April was held on 19 March at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to Laos.
Among these students, seven will enroll on post graduate courses (master and doctoral) in various fields such as agriculture, information science, economics, sociology, education and Japanese language pedagogy. Twelve students will enter technology colleges, specialising in computer science, engineering, biochemistry, and so forth. Two students will start to study at professional training colleges.
Their study will be funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.
At the reception, Ambassador Miyashita congratulated them on their success in examinations held last year. He made speech of encouragement for the students, emphasising the importance of their studies in Japan and urging them to make significant contribution to national development.
He also expressed hope that the students will play a role in bridging Laos and Japan in the future.
On behalf of the departing students, Ms. Mathina Phoumarino, who will start a Master course in Japanese language pedagogy at the Tsukuba University expressed her resolution that she will commit to her study and do her utmost for the academic achievement.
On this occasion, Mr. Litou Bouapao, Vice-Minister of Education, expressed thanks to Ambassador Miyashita for giving scholarships to the twenty-one Lao students. It is very important for Lao students to contribute for the country development, said the deputy-minister.
He believes that, after the twenty-one Lao student finish their study in Japan and return to the country they will contribute to development of the country, especially following the socio-economic development plan and to lift Laos from the least developed nation status by 2020.
The reception was attended by Mr. Ponemek Dalaloy, Minister of Public Health and President of the Laos-Japan Friendship Association, Mr. Thavone Tandavong, Vice Chairman of Defence-Security Commission, National Assembly, and Vice President of the Laos-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association, along with officials of the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education.
