AZERI GREAT JAZZMAN VAGIF MUSTAFAZADEH TURNS 70
Baku, March 17 (AzerTAc). A commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of founder of Azerbaijani jazz, great Vagif Mustafazadeh took place in Heydar Aliyev Palace.
At the foyer, the visitors familiarized themselves with photo exhibition reflecting course of life and creative activity of the jazzman.
Speaking to a ceremony, Azerbaijan`s Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev told of incomparable compositions of Vagif Mustafazadeh. He said the events to commemorate great jazzman are held due to Azerbaijan President`s decree.
Winner of international contests, virtuous pianist, vocalist and daughter Aziza Mustafazadeh and alumnus of Azerbaijani jazz school are successors of great jazzman.
Vagif Mustafazadeh was born on March 16, 1940 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. He started to play piano in his age of three. In 1963 he graduated from Baku State Musical School named after Asef Zeynalli and a year later accepted to Azerbaijani State Conservatorium. In 1965 he went to Tbilisi to lead the "Orero" musical ensemble. Later he created the "Qafqaz" jazz trio at Georgian State Philarmony. In 1970 the "Leyli" women` quartet and in 1971 "Sevil" vocal-instrumental ensemble were assembled by him. Between 1977 and 1979 until his death he led the "Mugham" instrumental ensemble. Vagif attended "Tallinn-66" All-Soviet Union Jazz Festival and "Caz-69" Azerbaijani jazz festivals and was awarded as laureate there. Mustafazadeh was also elected as laureate at Donetsk All-Soviet Union Jazz Festival held in 1977. He was elected as the best pianist in "Tbilisi-78". He won the first prize at the 8th International Competitions of Jazz Composers for his composition "Waiting for Aziza" in Monaco in 1978 and awarded with white grand piano. Vagif Mustafazadeh is honored artist of Azerbaijan.
