Iran to build 2 power plants in Ecuador

Tehran, March 8, IRNA – 1st Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi said that Iran plans to build two power plants in Ecuador, adding that mutual cooperation will continue.

He made the remarks in a news conference, on Sunday, held before the Ecuadorian First Vice-President Lenin Moreno left Tehran on the same day.

Ecuador is one of the friends of Iran and Tehran’s ties with it are improving rapidly, Rahimi.

“They have agreed in all fields and are set to pave the grounds for promoting relations by increasing exchanges in various arenas,” he said.

He also said that one of the issues raised by his counterpart during visit to Tehran was construction of power plants with assistance of Iranian experts.

“Iranian experts will soon start establishing two power plants in that country,” he added.

Oil cooperation was also discussed during the meeting, he said, adding that Ecuador is an oil-producing country and talks have been held to develop cooperation in the field.

“Although there is a great distance between the countries but our hearts are close to each other,” he said.

Moreno, for his part, said that despite the geographical distance, his country is ready to expand collaboration with Iran in all the fields.

The US does not know that independent countries adopt policies based on their interests and do not follow its despotic orders in developing ties with great countries such as Iran which ensures the security of the region and is a suitable partner for Latin America.

Moreno arrived in Tehran last Friday to confer with Iranian officials on such issues as gas, oil, production of foodstuff and construction of power plants.

Ecuador is a democratic republic in South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Its capital city is Quito, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the 1970s for having the best preserved and least altered historic center in Latin America./end
