AZERBAIJAN PARLIAMENT SENDS AN APPEAL TO US CONGRESS

Baku, March 5 (AzerTAc). Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic (Azerbaijan Parliament) sent an appeal to the Congress of the United States of America. The Appeal says:

“Dear colleagues,
We were deeply concerned and became furious upon hearing the news about the decision adopted by the US House Foreign Affairs Committee on the so-called “Armenian genocide”. We estimate this unfair resolution, being a vivid sign of indifference to historical truth and sacrificing the state interests to the Armenian lobby, as a wrong step able to cause new problems in the Asia Miner and South Caucasus.
It, evidently, is an attempt to make these historical events a subject of political speculation, the events, not duly investigated and objectively assessed, to justify groundless claims of the Armenian nationalists against the neighboring countries. The historians, including the Western investigators, adhering to scientific truth, have proved that there was no “Armenian genocide” at all. It is a fabricated and far-fetched product of “sick imagination” of the Armenians and base on false documents.
Opening by the Turkish state leaders of the archives of the Ottoman period, inviting the investigators, including the Armenian scholars to get acquainted with the historical documents of the early XX century, as well as proposing to set a joint commission of historians, and rejecting by the Armenian side from healthy scientific polemics show the true face of the Armenian falsifiers who propagandize the legend of “Armenian genocide”. Rejection by the Armenian nationalists of the said proposals proves that they are interested rather in falsification or concealment of the facts, but not to reveal the historical realities.
Objective studies show that in early XX century the Armenian nationalists have committed acts of mass terror and slaughter in the territory of present Republic of Turkey and Caucasus, killing over 2 million innocent Turks and Azerbaijanis. In the last 18 years, the Azerbaijan Parliament has many times addressed the international organizations and world countries, including the US Congress, to recognize the genocide crimes committed by the Armenian nationalists against Azerbaijanis last century, especially the genocide against the peaceful people in the Khojaly town of Azerbaijan on February 26, 1992. Unfortunately, the United States, has not, so far, given due assessment to this terrible crime committed in the eyes of civil world.
Acceptance by House Foreign Relations Committee of such unfair act causes amazement. While statements and fabrications of the Armenian nationalists about genocide of early XX century are accepted, and the world turns a blind eye on the aggressive war which Armenia has unleashed at the present stage, and the genocide made by them against Azerbaijanis, it openly testifies to a prejudiced pro-Armenian position. In such conditions, the Republic of Armenia, declaring that supports establishment in region of peace, stability and environment of mutual understanding, in fact, keeps under occupation of 20 percent of the Azerbaijani lands and lets one million Azerbaijanis to live in plight of refugees and IDPs, continues to roughly violate the principles of international law.
In the Azerbaijan society there is such opinion that the greatest factor impeding settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, is the approach of the influential states of the world to the conflict with a position of double standards, refusal to name the country-aggressor and its impunity, equating the aggressor and the victim.
Acceptance of the unfair decision in the Foreign Relations Committee of Congress of the United States of America as a country-cochair of the OSCE Minsk Group which is engaged in settlement of the conflict impedes the efforts on establishment of peace in region and can bring to naught the positive results reached till now in negotiating process.
However, we believe that the said decision contradicting interests of the USA in region and capable to strike blow on strategic partnership of the USA-Turkey and the USA-Azerbaijan, will be rejected by the American Congress. We wish to hope that the leadership of such state with democratic image as the USA will do the utmost not to admit acceptance of this decision which can damage the relations of the USA-Turkey and the USA-Azerbaijan.
(The Appeal was accepted at session of Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic on March 5, 2010).
