Big pulp mill to be built in Savannakhet in 2011
VIENTIANE,FEB 23 (KPL) - Savannakhet province-based Duangtaven Company or Sun Company of China will start to build a large pulp mill in 2011, once its licence is approved by the Lao government.
The Sun Company disclosed yesterday that it would invest more than US$ 400 million in establishing a pulp mill and planting industrial trees in Phine, Sepon and Nong districts of Savannakhet province on a total concession land of 30,000 hectares. Initially the plantation will cover an area of 9,000 hectares in 2010. In the years ahead it is expected to expand more planting areas.
Miss Tick, consultant of the Sun Company, China, told KPL news journalist yesterday that her company just signed a memorandum of understanding on land concession to start the plantation of industrial trees and the construction of the pulp mill.
She expected that the company would use 300 hectares out of 30,000 hectares to build the mill and dormitory for workers. The paper processing factory will have an annual production capacity of three million
tonnes.
Mr Sithonh Nanthalad, Head of the Investment and Planning Office, Savannakhet province, said that recently the global financial crisis did not send much impact on investment in this central province because a number of investors were still flowing into the province, even slightly up.
According to the latest development, the Sun Company has been approved of planting industrial trees and building the pulp mill.
