Iran makes history by winning Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup
TEHRAN, Feb. 15 (MNA) - Iran beat Turkey 4-3 in the final of the 2010 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup on Sunday evening in Yerevan, Armenia, and claimed the championship for the first time.
Iran defeated powerhouse Cuba 4-3 in the first round. The team overpowered the Nordic team composed of Swedish and Danish wrestlers 6-1, and then beat Armenia 4-3.
Iran finally defeated former world champion Turkey 4-3 and took home the title.
A total of eight teams namely Iran, Georgia, Turkey, Russia, Hungary, Cuba, and a Nordic team along with the Armenian host participated in the competition from 12 to 14 February.
