Mr Wiwitwin said he did it because he was frustrated with the police and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration officials who ignored his complaints about group of people who who always smoke cigarettes near his house. He said the smoke affected his daughter's health.

He said that he did it alone and that it had nothing to do with politics.

The police said they believed Mr Wiwitwin was the only assailant and targeted the prime minister's house because the premier is an important figure. He said he is not a man with mental problems as police had earlier suggested.

Police also asked the court to issue an order barring him from the prime minister's residence to prevent him from repeating his attack.

The Court finally sentenced Mr Wiwitwin to jail for 10 days but his jail term was halved to five days because he confessed to the wrongdoing.
