Council of Advisers approves proposal to repeal amendment of

DHAKA, Bangladesh, June 23 (BSS) - The Council of Advisers today
approved a proposal to repeal the amendment of Government and
Local Authority Lands and Buildings (Recovery of Possession)
Ordinance 1970.

The approval was given at a meeting of the Council of
Advisers held at the Chief Adviser's Office (CAO) this afternoon
with Chief Adviser Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair.

Later Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Syed Fahim Munaim
told reporters that with the approval of this proposal the
administration would be relieved of the responsibilities of
evicting illegal occupants from the private lands.

As eviction of illegal occupants from private lands is a
lengthy and complex process and it needs huge manpower,
involvement of the government offices in such operation would
hamper the day-to-day activities of the administration, he said.

Besides, the Council of Advisers approved, in principle, a
proposal of the Ministry of Education on discharging duties as
President of the governing bodies, managing committees and adhoc
committees of the private schools, colleges, madrasas and
technical institutions.

After an elaborate discussion, the meeting asked the
Ministry of Education to further examine the matters relating to
the proposal and place it before the cabinet for final approval.

The Council of Advisers also approved, in principle,
Bangladesh Government's Ratification of the Capetown Convention
and Concerned Aircraft Protocol put forward by the Ministry of
Civil Aviation and Tourism. A total of 21 countries including
India and Pakistan have so far ratified the protocol.

During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the
Ombudsmen (Amendment) Ordinance 2008 put forward by the Ministry
of Law Affairs. Later, the meeting sent back the proposal and
asked the concerned ministry to place it again before the council
after necessary examination.

Advisers of the Caretaker Government and the Special
Assistants to the Chief Adviser attended the meeting.

Cabinet secretary, press secretary to the Chief Adviser and
secretaries concerned were present.
