Iran’s “Ronak” awarded at Canadian festival

TEHRAN, Feb. 9 (MNA) -- Iran’s “Ronak” by Hushang Mirzaii was awarded at the Picture This…, Canadian international disability film festival in Calgary, Canada.

The Iranian documentary “Ronak” received honorable mention at the 10 to 30 minutes film section of the festival.

The jury praised “great camera work”, “the intimacy of the film”, “interesting shots” in the film and described it as inspiring, natural, informative and creative.

The film narrates the story of Mr. Rahimi, blind since childhood from a small pox infection, who lives in rural Iran. He dotes on his elderly mother, buying her medicine and visiting her daily.

His film “Something like My Eyes” also competed at the festival. The movie narrates the life story of Abdolvahaed from Iran’s Kordestan who lost his parents in the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq War. When he was in first grade, he was blinded and lost both hands when a land mine exploded.

“Akbar Dreams Chicken” and “Haji–Gullit” by Reza Dorostkar also participated at the gala.

Picture this is an international disability film festival. It is a non-profit annual event initiated by the Community Development department of the Calgary Scope Society, a registered non-profit society. A few staff members and numerous volunteers work year round to bring the festival to the public.
