Islamic states should possess technology to produce nuclear energy

Tehran, Feb 2, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday that the Islamic states should possess technology to produce nuclear energy.
Larijani made the remarks upon his arrival at Mehrabad international airport.
He had attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Uganda to voice Iran’s stand on securing legitimate rights of Muslims worldwide to produce nuclear energy in line with Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union passed a resolution to acknowledge the rights of the Islamic states enshrined by Charter of the International Atomic Energy Agency to produce nuclear energy for civilian utility.
Larijani told reporters that it is legitimate rights of every Islamic state to possess the technological know-how to set up fuel cycle for nuclear power plants.
Meanwhile, Larijani said that the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union declared a world day on Gaza which was welcomed by participating countries.
It was also agreed that a special committee to follow up current developments in Holy Qods and Palestine, he said.
He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran was appointed as deputy chairman of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union.
He also referred to his meeting with Ugandan president and described it as very fruitful and promising and underlined that such exchange of visits will prepare the ground for expansion of economic, industrial and agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
Referring to his visit to Kuwait, Larijani said he also held fruitful talks with the Kuwaiti Emir on issues of mutual interests, as well as regional developments.
He also conferred with his Kuwaiti counterpart on expansion of parliamentary cooperation.
Larijani in Kuwait met with local officials on expansion of economic cooperation and reviewed a number of existing obstacles on the way./end
