Dialogue helps reach consensus to improve political culture: Dr Hossain Zillur

DHAKA, Bangladesh, June 20 (BSS)-The ongoing dialogue helps reach a
consensus to improve country's political culture shunning the
path of anarchy for further strengthening democratic system.

The dialogue is also assisting forging an opinion that a
consensus is necessary to establish post election stability, give
up the culture of hartal and parliament boycott, raise the
importance of local government bodies and make power application
system more democratic.

Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman made
the assertion today while summing up 15 dialogues so far held
between the government and political parties at a joint press
briefing at the Chief Adviser's Office after talks with the
leaders of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish.

Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed was present in the dialog.
Both sides said that the talks were held in a cordial atmosphere.

Khelafat leaders demanded qualitative change in politics,
strengthening drive against corruption without any political
purpose, holding polls in October next as holy Hajj will take
place in December, establishing sympathy among the political
parties and not to endorse any law regarding `women development
policy' that contradicts with the Quraan and Sunnah .



Communications Adviser Maj Gen (Retd) Ghulum Quader,
Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman and LGRD
and Cooperatives Adviser M Anwarul Iqbal attended the dialogue.

Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Secretary General Moulana Yusuf
Ashraf led his party delegation at the talks. The delegation
included senior party leaders Moulana Ashraf Ali, Maulana Abdur
Rab Yusofi, Maulana Nezamuddin, Maulana Tafazzal Haque Aziz and
Maulana Rezaul Karim Jalali.

Stressing the necessity of reaching a consensus on particular
issues of national interest, Dr Hossain Zillur said all concerned
should come forward and share responsibility in this regard.

The adviser said emergency rules will be relaxed in the areas
where local government polls will be held. The relaxation will be
effective from the date of schedule announcement to voting.

He said the Chief Adviser will join the regional dialogue in
Chittagong on June 28 and hoped the next regional dialogues will
be held in Khulna, Sylhet and Rajshahi.

Replying to a number of questions, Dr Hossain Zillur said
local body polls are being held on a non-party basis and
confidence and consensus based on logic will be built among all
stake holders during the polls.

He hoped that BNP and Jamaat will also participate in the
dialogue.

Referring to the issue of registration of political parties
raised by Khelafat in the talks, the adviser said the proposal of
the Election Commission in this regard will be reviewed in the
meeting of the Council of Advisers before approval.

On issuing certificate to the students of Qaumi madrasa, he
said the matter of supervision of academic curriculum by the
government is involved while giving such certificates.

On the dialogue table Khelafat leaders said, political
parties should develop the mentality of accepting poll results
and consensus should be reached on national issues giving due
importance to public opinion.
