POVERTY LEVEL IN AZERBAIJAN ‘FELL 33.7% IN FIVE YEARS’
Baku, January 31 (AzerTAc). Poverty level in Azerbaijan saw a 33.7% fall in five years, said the country`s economic development minister.
Speaking to a press-conference, Shahin Mustafayev said the Azeri government`s ‘effective reforms allowed the country to have brought the poverty levels from 44.7% to 11% in five years.”
On the level of minimum pensions and wages, Mustafayev said last year it grew 3.8% and 6.3% respectively in comparison with 2008.
The minister also highlighted the country`s economic progress in 2009.
“The Gross Domestic Product reached 34.6 billion manats or nearly $42.5 billion last year. It means a 9.3% growth”.
Mustafayev also said last year saw a nearly 8% jump in GDP per capita.
“The average economic output per person increased 7.9% to reach 4,874 US dollars in 2009.”
