4.3% increase in Iran’s birth rate

TEHRAN, Jan. 27 (MNA) – A total of 153 births in a day have been registered over the nine-month period ended December 21, 2009, showing an increase of 4.3% compared to the same period in the last year.

According to the head of public relation department of the Birth Registration Organization (BRO), 1014331 births have been recorded between March 21 and December 21 across the country, from which 521098 were boys and 493242 girls.

A total of 709248 births have occurred in the urban areas and 305083 births in rural areas, Mahdi Esmaeili noted.

He also said that moms between the ages of 24 and 29, accounting for 31.5% of total birth rate, have had the highest rate of birth during the nine-month period.
