Fund raising for Vientiane’s 450th proclaiming anniversary
(KPL) Vientiane Capital has launched a campaign to raise funds for the celebration of the 450th anniversary of its proclamation as the national capital. Present at the ceremony included Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad and Vientiane Mayor Sombath Yialiheu.
The fund is needed for the execution of several projects in preparation for the celebration of Vientiane’s 450th proclaiming anniversary. These projects include the improvement of That Luang’s esplanade, the resumption of the construction of Road 450th Year, the development of the Sayasetthathirath Park, and the organisation of events for the celebration day on November 15.
“In 1560, King Sayasetthathirath moved the capital of the Kingdom of Lane Xang from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. He ordered the renovation of That Luang “the Great Stupa” and the proclamation of Vientiane in the same year,” said Mr. Sombath.
“The cerebration of the 450th anniversary of Vientiane proclamation as the national capital of Laos is to make Vientiane residents realise the history and growth of the city and introduce Vientiane to larger international communities,” said Mr. Somsavat.
