Spain to honor Iranian filmmaker with Ibn Arabi Award

TEHRAN, Jan. 18 (MNA) -- Oscar-nominated Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi will be honored with the Ibn Arabi Award during a ceremony in Murcia, southeastern Spain.

The mayor of Murcia is scheduled to present the award on February 14.

Majidi’s “Children of Heaven” was nominated in the category of Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards in 1998.

A number of Majidi’s films are slated to be screened in Murcia, which is the hometown of Muhyiddin ibn Arabi, a Muslim mystic-philosopher who lived 1165-1240.

The Ibn Arabi Award is given annually to the artists promoting spiritual values and good morals.

Murcia first established its claim to Ibn Arabi as one of its citizens in 1990 when city officials commemorated the 750th anniversary of the death of the mystic during a conference attended by many of the world’s prominent scholars.
