Riyadh International Book Fair Kick off with Qatar Participation

Riyadh, September 29 (QNA) - Riyadh International Book Fair has kicked off Thursday with the participation of a number of Qatari publishing houses, including Dar Al Watad, HBKU Press, Katara Publishing House, and Rosa Publishing House. Organized by the Saudi Literature, Publishing & Translation Commission, the fair is considered a cultural window that gathers literature makers, publication and translation from a wide range of local and international institutions and enterprises to converge with the readers and those who are interested in reading, and comprises several cultural paradigm events, dialogue platforms, interactive lectures and workshops that cover the areas of art, reading, writing, and publication. In this context, Director of the Libraries Department at the Ministry of Culture Jassim Ahmed Al-Buainain said the objective of the Qatar's participation in Riyadh International Book Fair comes within the efforts of building the relations with those working in the culture and publication, and offers the Qatari intellectual production that range from the ministry's releases to Doha Magazine, pointing out to the participation of Dar Al Watad in the event for the first time with a combination of releases and journals with 164 titles, including cultural, legal books and other children's educational books. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) Director of Cultural Affairs and Events at Katara Khalid Abdul Rahim Al Sayed noted the participation of Katara Publishing House in the fair for the second time after its first participation last year, pointing out that such participation made a significant success, specially with respect to marketing the releases and the competitions that were evaluated, namely Katara Prize for Prophet's Poet and Katara Prize for Arabic Novel, stating that such participation will be through 40 new titles in novel, specialized literary critical studies, in addition to other previous titles, pointing out that the overwhelming majority of the fair visitors are from the Saudi audience who aspire to purchase books that handle the history and culture of the State of Qatar, specially after Katara Publishing House had sold out substantial number of its publications during its participation in the past. He outlined that such participation has contributed to attracting a wide spectrum of Saudi readers and intellectuals to participate in Katara's prizes through capitalizing on their presence in this fair to get familiarized with the prizes and contests it holds. In addition, HBKU Press is participating with roughly 450 releases in the event with miscellaneous categories of knowledge, ranging from novels and children's books to references and academic books, because HBKU Press was keen to select these books among the latest releases that has earned prizes for illustrious authors at the regional and global level. The Executive Director of HBKU Press Bachar Chebaro said that Riyadh International Book Fair gains special significance for the entire publishing houses, because they represent platforms that carry out a fundamental role in promoting the desire for reading in the community and strongly contribute to promoting the knowledge and culture at the literal and artistic levels. Therefore, HBKU Press has been keen to participate in this event to offer its releases to the Saudi and Arab readers with their various age categories. (QNA)
