Shura Council Speaker During Council's Closing Session: We Discussed Many Vital Issues of Interest to Qatar, Its Citizens

Doha, July 04 (QNA) - HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim affirmed that, during the 35 regular sessions and several committee meetings the Shura Council held, it addressed many vital issues of interest to the State of Qatar and its citizens, in addition to making the appropriate suggestions in their regard. In his speech during the closing session of the first regular session of the first legislative term, corresponding to the 50th session of the Shura Council, and on behalf of the council members, His Excellency extended tremendous thanks and highest praise and appreciation to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, for his keenness to support the council by granting it a role in the decision-making process. HE Speaker of the Shura Council reviewed the accomplishments achieved by the council in this regard, which were characterized by constructive actions, discussions and recommendations, in which other state agencies participated in the process of renaissance and development. The council addressed several important topics, whether related to the legislative tools that regulate the affairs of the temporary expropriation and appropriation of real estate for the public benefit, and the regulation of the ownership of real estate in the country by diplomatic and consular missions, or other important issues that concern the citizens such as the two draft laws on social security and military retirement, His Excellency said. The council also discussed proposals related to inflation, the high cost of living, and the increasing financial burdens in society, as well as Qataris' reluctance towards the teaching profession, aspects associated with marriage, Qatari job seekers, and promoting values and national identity, in addition to many other topics, he added, pointing out that the council submitted its proposals regarding those topics to the esteemed government. His Excellency noted that during its sessions, the council discussed and approved the organizational structure and the personnel regulations of the council, as well as studying and discussing the electoral programs of the members. He commended the efforts made by the esteemed government, as well as its constructive cooperation with the council in the legislative field, praising the prominent role of the heads of the committees and all Their Excellencies members of the Shura Council, for their appreciated efforts in order to achieve the well-being and prosperity of the country and its citizens. The success of the council in performing its role would not have been possible without the interaction and popular participation of loyal citizens, by presenting their views and suggestions through their representatives, he noted. He also commended the role of the various media outlets, indicating that they carried out their mission to the fullest, by reporting and conveying the council's events and news, and addressing issues that attracted the community's interest in discussion and analysis, extending his thanks to the council's General Secretariat and those working for it, for their efforts to run and implement the tasks and work of the council. His Excellency concluded the closing session, noting that this term has been a remarkable experience, filled with legislative and oversight tasks, parliamentary participation, and diplomatic work in parliamentary forums and conferences, as well as international organizations concerned with the parliamentary role. HE Speaker of the Shura Council concluded his speech by praying for the protection and continuous security and development of the country, under the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The Shura Council has held its closing session of the first regular session of the first legislative term, corresponding to the 50th session of the Shura Council, under the chairpersonship of HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. During the session, the council reviewed the report of its Special Committee Studying Aspects Associated with Marriage. After extensive discussions on the conclusions of the report, the council decided to submit a proposal to the esteemed government. The proposal included requesting a number of procedures and measures that contribute to limiting these aspects, in addition to setting a maximum limit for the time length of wedding ceremonies. On the other hand, the council approved a request to extend the work of its Information and Cultural Affairs Committee to study the phenomenon of Qataris' reluctance towards the teaching profession. Afterwards, HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala read out Decree No. 31 of 2022 to adjourn the first regular session of the first legislative term, corresponding to the 50th session of the Shura Council as of Tuesday, Dhu'l-Hijjah 6, 1443 AH, corresponding to July 5, 2022.
