Al-Raya: Qatar is Leading Country in International Efforts During Crisis

Doha, February 23 (QNA) - Al-Raya newspaper highlighted in its Tuesday editorial the statements of HE Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater before the high-level segment of the 46th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, which confirmed that the State of Qatar will remain at the forefront of countries leading international efforts to confront the Coronavirus pandemic. The newspaper said that Qatar realized from the beginning that confronting the pandemic is a collective responsibility, and that is why the State extended a helping hand to brothers and friends around the world and supported the efforts of those countries and organizations against the repercussions of the pandemic through sending medical and humanitarian shipments to more than 70 countries and humanitarian organizations. It also pointed out that Qatar Airways evacuated nearly 3 million passengers to their home countries when most of the world's airports were closed and airlines stopped operating. It explained that when talking about international efforts to eradicate the pandemic, Qatar had to mention before the Human Rights Council and the international community that providing vaccines to Palestinians in the occupied territories is one of the occupying power's responsibilities before international and humanitarian law, adding that their refusal of this responsibility cannot be understood except as an apartheid system that must be condemned and denounced. Al-Raya added that Qatar reiterated its condemnation and rejection of the continuous violations and racist practices committed by the occupation, especially the insistence on implementing plans to build illegal settlements in blatant violations of the provisions of international law and resolutions. Qatar also renews its condemnation of the continued unjust siege imposed by Israel on two million Palestinians in Gaza, emphasizing that the occupation authorizes must realize that a just, comprehensive and lasting peace can only be achieved by ending the occupation and establishing the State of Palestine on the basis of pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, the newspaper said. Al-Raya concluded by stating that there are great Qatari efforts in the field of improving human rights conditions, as Doha made great strides in this regard through the accelerated implementation of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the strategies related to it; thus, it managed to achieve many sustainable development goals and assumed advanced regional positions in human development reports for recent years.
