Al-Watan Commends Deep Partnership between Qatar and US

Doha, September 16 (QNA) - Al-Watan newspaper said in its editorial on Wednesday that the third session of the Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue is a demonstration of the strong bilateral relations, and a firm and clear keenness to give these relations other strong impulses, in order to achieve common interests in many areas that were discussed, and resulted in the signing of various agreements and memoranda of understanding. The newspaper said that Qatar and the United States have stressed on more than one occasion, especially with regard to strategic dialogue, on the importance of their continued partnership that serves the interests of both countries, as well as the security and prosperity of the Gulf region. Al-Watan clarified that the strategic dialogue process confirms the commitment of Qatar and the United States to increase cooperation in areas that provide the most mutual and practical benefit, pointing out that this cooperation covers the issues discussed on building the best strategic relations between the two friendly countries, by committing to dialogue and long-term cooperation on political issues, strengthening defense cooperation, combating terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms, combating terrorist financing, expanding their partnership in trade and investment, and strengthening their cooperation in education and culture. The paper pointed out that the United States appreciated Qatar's mediation efforts on Afghanistan and its hosting of the Afghan peace negotiations in Doha, as well as its generous humanitarian role on the bilateral and multilateral levels through the work of various UN agencies. Al-Watan expressed confidence that the Qatar-US partnership will have its vital contributions that will be reflected in the security and stability of the region, as this strong and lasting partnership is the key to success in combating terrorism and violent extremism and deterring external aggression. In its editorial's conclusion, Al-Watan said that the meeting confirmed the two countries' commitment to boosting trade and investment, as bilateral trade relations are experiencing a significant growth reflected by figures indicating that the United States is Qatar's largest import partner. The paper also referred to the announcement that the United States is Qatar's official partner nation for the 2021 Year of Culture, noting that this adds another dimension to the deep and distinguished relations, and reflects the renewed commitment to promote mutual understanding between the two countries and to deepen dialogue among cultures.
