Information Minister extends congratulations on NAC anniversary
Manama, Feb. 13 (BNA): Information Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Romaihi praised the kingdom’s progress as a model in media and cultural openness and intellectual creativity. He stressed freedom of expression and the ongoing democratic and development achievements in the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The Information Minister extended heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, and the Bahraini people on the 19th anniversary of the National Action Charter (NAC) which was approved by an overwhelming majority of 98.4% of the Bahraini people. He affirmed development of mass media in Bahrain and their role as a pivotal partner in the reform and development march. The Information Minister commended the high performance of national competencies, pointing out an increase in the Bahrainisation rate at the Ministry of Information which reached 98.4 % after employing 100 graduates and 21 engineers last year as part of an ongoing Bahrainisation scheme. He also asserted keenness of the Information Ministry to upgrade the media sector and boost its enlightenment and awareness-raising role, in cooperation with Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA). He pointed out that the new press and media law is being reviewed by the competent ministerial committees and will be referred to the legislative branch during the current session for discussion and approval. He said the new law aims to promote responsible freedom of expression and protect the journalists’ rights. The Information Minister underlined the ministry’s ongoing efforts to develop the national media on the basis of responsible freedom, competence and creativity to promote its vital role in preserving the national identity and culture, protecting the kingdom’s security and stability and highlighting achievements brought about under the royal reform project.
