1MDB : Najib Not Held Today, MACC To Call Two Important Witnesses

PUTRAJAYA, May 22 (Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Najib Razak (centre) will not be arrested Tuesday as he was only giving his statement, said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull. He said MACC would be taking the statement of two important witnesses before proceeding to make any arrests relating to the case on SRC International and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). "Until we get two very important witnesses then you will get the story. Now the case is under Azam Baki. "Depending on the evidence and documents as well as depending on how he (Najib) answers...if we are satisfied we can let him go, but if we still need his statement again, we will call him back," he said in a special media conference here Tuesday. Shukri said the MACC respected Najib as a former prime minister and he himself would not seek revenge against any parties. "We must respect him because he is our former PM, I am not going to take revenge on anybody but will let the law speaks," he added. Najib was present at MACC headquarters this morning to give statement on SRC International case. SRC International was subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), until it was placed under the Finance Ministry in 2012. Last Friday, a team of MACC officers visited Najib's house in Taman Duta in Kuala Lumpur to serve a notice for the Pekan MP's presence at MACC headquarters to give his statement on the case.
