1,474 Runners Participate In 2016 Banyuwangi International Run

BANYUWANGI, E Java, Oct 10 (Antara)- Banyuwangi District Head Abdullah Azwar Anas kicked off the 2016 Banyuwangi International Run participated in by 1,474 national and foreign runners, here, Sunday. "The event is aimed at boosting creative economic in various fields, which consequently will help improve the economy of local inhabitants," Anas said in his remarks. Foreigners participating in the event included three runners from Kenya, namely Denis Isika, Muindi Unesmus, and David Kibei. Other foreign participants were from France, Thailand, and Malaysia. "National runners such as Yulianingsih, Ancong, Ester Sunah, and Saiin Alim also join the race," Wawan Yadmadi, head of the Banyuwangi sport and youth office, said. Yulianingsih won silver medal in the 300 meters in the 19th National Sports Week (PON), and Acong grabbed a gold medal in 3,000 step chase in PON held in West Java, recently. The sport event covered a five-km long route that included Boom Beach and other tourist attractions in Banyuwangi, which is called "the Sunrise of Java". The international athletic event competed four categories namely 10 Km Open, 10 Km Master, 5 Km Open, and 5 Km for students, with total prizes amounting Rp160 million.
