A number of New Year travelers return to Bangkok

BANGKOK, January 4 (TNA) - A number of travelers have returned to Bangkok, in the wake of a long New Year public holiday period, from December 31, 2011- January 3, 2012. Hundreds of people were stranded at the main Mo Chit Bus Terminal in Bangkok on Wednesday morning due to over demand for public transport services for the travelers who had returned from provincial areas to work in the capital, resulting in overcharged fares by some taxi drivers. Excessive return bus trips to the Mo Chit Bus Terminal also caused heavy traffic in its vicinity, including Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. In Thailand's northeastern Buri Ram Province, traffic congestion happened on Highway 24 (Choke Chai-Det Udom) in Prakhonchai and Nangrong Districts, as a number of people opted to travel today to avoid heavy traffic jam on Tuesday. At the Pichit Railway Station in the Lower Thai North, a number of passengers waited for the first south-bound train on Wednesday morning to return to work in Bangkok, as they could not reserve tickets of previous trains because all seats on over 10 trains during the New Year holidays were sold out.
