Saudi Arabia Wins GCC Football Cup

Doha, September 11 (QNA) - Saudi Youth Olympic team won the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) football cup today after having defeated Bahraini team 2-1 at the Aspire Academy Sports Stadium here this evening. HE Sheikh Chairman of the Qatar Football Association Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani handed the Saudi team gold medals and the Bahraini team silver medals in the presence of Qatar Football Association's General Secretary Saud Al Mohannadi. This is the second time the Saudi squad wins the trophy, as the last time it has managed to won it was in 2008. The Saudis booked their place in the final after edging past UAE in the semi-final, meanwhile Bahrain needed a penalty shootout verdict to beat hosts Qatar in the other semi-final. Six teams partook in the biennial competition and were divided into two groups. (QNA)
