Bahrain weightlifters receive special welcome

Manama, Apr. 30 (BNA): Bahrain had an honorable finish at the recently-concluded Asian, West Asian and Arab Cups, which took place in the Jordanian Capital of Amman. The nationals competed with participants from 13 countries in this week-long multi-event challenge in which they captured 53 medals in total in a variety of weight categories. The Bahraini delegation is led by Bahrain Weightlifting and Physical Education Association Board Member and head of the Weightlifting Committee Ali Abdullah, along with male and female team coaches Abdulredha Abdulla and Ameera Ibrahim as the team is participates for the first time in the event. Representing Bahrain in the 56kg adult male category will be Salman Al Kindi and in the 77kg category Yousif Al Sherawi. As for the women’s team, Zahra Hassan will contest the 48kg female category and Sara Ateeq in the 69kg category. In the West Asian Cup, Zahra Hassan took three gold medals in the youth section. The same athlete also won three silver medals in the junior section and three in the senior age category. Zahra was also impressive in the Asian Championship, taking home the youth silver, and marched on to claim six silver medals in the senior and junior division. In the men’s section, Salman Al Kindi bagged three gold medals at the West Asian Championship’s junior category. He also achieved three silver medals in the senior championship. In the Asian Championship, Salman continued to show some remarkable efforts to win two more silver medals and one bronze, in addition to a bronze medal. In the senior category, he also bagged three different medals, as well as four silver medals and two bronze. Sara Ateeq added three gold medals to Bahrain’s tally in the Arab Cup and Asian Championship. Yousef Al Shirawi also had honorable marks, taking home two bronze medals in the West Asian Championship, while Abdulreda Abdulla took three medals and one silver in the same event. Asian Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness president, Bahrain Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation president and International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness vice-president Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa welcomed members of the team on return and congratulated them on this honorable achievement.
