Bahrain Triathlon Team ready for Ironman 70.3 in Australia

Manama, June 12 (BNA): Personal Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa asserted that Bahrain Triathlon Team is ready for the international triathlon championship (Ironman 70.3) at Carins, Australia, which starts tomorrow with the participation of 3800 international triathletes who will compete for the championship’s title. He pointed out the participation of few members of Bahrain Endurance 13 Team in the race, wishing them good luck. He said the bteam members have successfully completed training for the challenge and expected to finish the three stages of the championship in the first places and continue the series of international achievements brought about by Bahrain in triathlon competitions. Shaikh Nasser led the team through the cycling and swimming training yesterday. The team later attended the technical meeting of the race where they were briefed about the different stages of the contest. The race will include two stages. Shaikh Nasser will race the full-distance triathlon which includes a swimming challenge of 3.8 km, a cycling race of 190 km and a 42.5 km running contest. Team members Eric, David Taylor and Ahmed Al Haj will take part in the half-distance challenge which consists of a swimming race of 1.9 km, a cycling race of 90 km and a 21 km running challenge. Shaikh Nasser, Bahrain Endurance Team and Bahrain Endurance 13 Team members attended the general assembly of the competition held at the city’s conference hall where they viewed several documentaries on the previous championships and few champs were introduced to the participants. Team member and Bahrain Triathlon Association President Shaikh Saqr bin Salman Al Khalifa said the Australian championship is an opportunity for the team members to gain more international experience that will sharpen their skills and have a positive impact on their future performance. He said the team trained well for the occasion and will spare no efforts in competing until the very last moment.
