Aspetar Hosts Third Annual Athlete's Ankle Conference
Doha, November 17 (QNA) - Aspetar Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital held its third annual conference, the Athlete s Ankle, from 17th 18th November as part of its Current Concepts series.
The event, which commenced on Saturday, brought together world opinion leaders in the field of Ankle Pathology in a bid to share knowledge and further research through lecture highlights, case discussions and audience interaction.
"Sports related ankle joint injuries are common; in fact, ankle sprains were among the most commonly reported complaints during the last FIFA World Cup and London 2012 Olympics. The Athlete's Ankle is a chance for leading figures from around the world to come together to discuss ankle pathology and to further develop existing research," said Dr Khalifa Al Kuwari, Aspetar s Chief Executive Officer.
The topics were divided into five categories, Traumatology, Instability, Impingment and Tendinopathy, and Cartilage. Well-renowned speakers from all over the world such as Dr Thomas Bauer from France , Dr James Calder from UK, Prof Jay Hertel and Prof John Kennedy from USA, Prof Pau Golano from Spain and Swedish orthopaedic surgeon, Prof Jon Karlsson, gathered together with the Aspetar Team.
The conference sessions were open to all those interested in the study of the subject whether doctors, researchers, coaches or athletes.
The Aspetar Current Concepts series is dedicated to exploring and researching different sports related injuries. The first conference, the Athlete's Knee, was held in October 2010, while the second edition, the Athlete s Elbow, was held in December 2011.
As part of its commitment to spearhead innovation and research in global sport medicine, Aspetar has been making impressive strides. The hospital recently previewed their findings at Bayt Qatar during the 2012 London Olympics to hundreds of sports medicine specialists and led ground breaking discussions at the annual Leaders in Performance conference in October 2012.
