ISLAMABAD (A.A) - 26.10.2009 - Turkish relief organization, Turk Kizilayi (Red Crescent), opened a "Disaster Coordination and Logistics Center" in Pakistan.
President Raja Zulqarnain Khan of the autonomous region of Jammu and Kashmir, and Tekin Kucukali, director-general of Turkish Red Crescent, inaugurated the center.
"We established the biggest and most equipped disaster coordination center of the region in Pakistan. Turkish Red Crescent is the first relief organization which arrived in the region during the devastating quake disaster of 2005 which killed 76 thousand people and left thousands of others homeless," Kucukali said.
The center offers uninterrupted communication opportunities with four different provinces of Pakistan in case of a natural disaster. It also has the capacity to arrange international relief operations. The center cost about 2.2 million USD.
