LIVER TRANSPLANTATION SURGERIES PERFORMED SUCCESSFULLY

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Liver transplantation surgeries from living donor have performed successfully for the first time in Mongolia by Mongolian and Korean doctors of Mongolian State Clinical Hospital and "ASAN" medical center of Republic of Korea. The Health Minister, S.Lambaa received the Korean doctors on October 31. They made first ever surgery to transplant liver from a living donor on September 21 with financial support of the "ASAN". The patient is 45 years old woman Sh.Tungalag who received a liver from a 23-year old man-donor. The team has made their second and third operations on September 29-30. Doctors say the recipients and donors are in relatively good condition under treatments. Mongolian liver transplantation team, consisting of 12 members, ran 14-30-day training at the "ASAN" since January of 2009. The Korean medical team from the "ASAN" headed by the Lee Sung Gyu, a director of Division of Liver Transplantation, performed the surgeries under the agreements between Mongolia's State Clinical Hospital and "ASAN" and decisions of the Health Minister and the head of the hospital. The "ASAN" decided to grant 200 million wo worth medical equipment and supplies designed for liver transplantation. The "ASAN" center is the parent of seven hospitals, which are part of the ASAN foundation established in 1977 and which has non-profit operations in areas including health care, social work, scholarship, and R and D support.
