Presidents of Turkmenistan and Iran discussed perspectives of cooperation

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, June 7 / Trend, H. Hasanov / President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Beijing to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said the Turkmen government. During the meeting sides discussed state and prospects of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international politics. The information says that the president called for increased cooperation, the profound potential. On the credit side of the long-term partnership - number of completed and current ongoing major projects such as the construction of transnational railway North-South, to serve as a strengthening and expansion of mutually beneficial relations in the regional and international scale. Having confirmed the intention to develop cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral format, first of all, in the authoritative international organizations, leaders of Turkmenistan and Iran have expressed confidence that the traditional cooperation built on the principles of equality and mutual respect, will continue to aim to implement rich economic and cultural potential of the two countries and strengthening regional stability. Turkmenistan with Iran has carried out large-scale projects such as construction of reservoirs, "Dostluk" railroad Tejan-Sarakhs-Mashad, interstate pipelines and power lines. At this stage, the implementation is referred to a major rail project "North-South", which takes part of Kazakhstan. Construction of the railway is supported by the Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank. The parties are also negotiating to increase energy supplies from Turkmenistan.
