OSCE head: Adoption of defamation law in Azerbaijan is very important

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 14 / Trend, M.Aliyev / Adoption of the law 'On Defamation' in Azerbaijan is very important. OSCE chairperson Eamon Gilmore said in a statement during a meeting with deputy speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova on Thursday. He said Azerbaijan is the only country in South Caucasus which has not yet adopted such a law. "Therefore I believe that it is important to adopt this law in Azerbaijan and accelerate its realisation," Gilmore said. Muradova, in turn stressed that work is underway in Azerbaijan and public hearings on the law 'On defamation' are being held. "Azerbaijan has enough political will to adopt this law. However, in 25 countries, those members of the Council of Europe, this law is also not adopted and we wonder why they have not conducted work in this direction," Muradova added.
