French Foreign Minister: President Macron Will Visit Baghdad In The Coming Period

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian unveiled a visit by President Emmanuel Macron to Baghdad in the coming period, stressing his country's commitment to the construction of the University of Mosul. "Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and discussed with him the relations between Baghdad and Paris and means of enhancing them to achieve the interests of the two friendly countries as well as the importance of France's participation in the reconstruction of the infrastructure of Iraqi cities. They also discussed the most important regional and international issues and the efforts exerted to alleviate the tensions and crises experienced by the region. " The French minister said, "I came to Baghdad to emphasize our continuing support to the Iraqi people in various fields and we look forward to contributing in the reconstruction of Iraq's infrastructure," He expressed his country's readiness to complete the cooperation agreement, which was presented earlier in the framework of opening new horizons to strengthen bilateral relations and committed to the project of building the University of Mosul, revealing a visit to President Emmanuel Macron to Baghdad in the coming period. He added: "We count on the Iraq's role in resolving the crisis in Syria and cooperation with France in this regard." For his part, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said that "Iraq has achieved great victories in its war against terrorism and today continues its efforts to rebuild Iraqi cities, noting that the Iraqi government continues its efforts to return displaced families to their areas and provide the necessary supplies for them." He added "Iraq will not forget the friendly countries that have stood by its side and supported it humanely, militarily and serviceably and we looks forward to their contribution in the reconstruction of Iraq's infrastructure" confirmed "We will count on the active presence of the international community in the donors' conference in Kuwait and continue to stand by the Iraqi people," Jaafari stressed that "the partnership between Iraq and France is very important and we must make more efforts to activate common interests and face common risks."
