Azerbaijan, Baku, June 25 / Trend, S.Agayeva / Azerbaijani Embassy in Syria continues its work in the country, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told reporters on Monday. "We do not see any need to suspend the Azerbaijani Embassy's activity in this country," he said. Abdullayev said according to statistics, as of June 10, there are 60 Azerbaijani citizens in Syria. "About 50 fellow citizens returned home since January, that is, since the situation in Syria began deteriorating," he said. The anti-government protests continue in Syria for more than a year. They turned into an armed struggle between the opposition and units of the power structures of the country. The reports about new armed incidents and victims appear on a regular basis, despite the country has declared a truce since mid-April according to UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan's plan.
