Azerbaijani opposition party office head soon to announce plans

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 25 / Trend E. Mehdiyev / The head of the opposition Musavat party central executive office Arif Hajili will soon announce his plans for nominating his candidature as party head. "I have just got out of jail," he told Trend. "I am now studying the situation in the country, the democratic camp and Musavat party. Afterwards, I will inform whether I will nominate my candidate for the post of Musavat party head." Regarding other candidates for the post of party chairman, Hajili said he did not want to name any specific names. "Musavat party has tens of thousands of members and there are many individuals who have worked in the party for many years," he said. "They have a great reputation in the society and the party, but I would not want to name any specific names." Regarding possible changes in Musavat's policy if he is elected as head of the party, Hajili said that the course of the party is determined by Congress of the party and its elected bodies, rather than individuals, even the most influential. "I do not think that a new head of the party will lead to any significant changes in Musavat's party," he said. "Of course, there may be changes, but they are not connected with electing a party chairman."
