PM Chaired A Meeting Of The Ministerial Council For National Security

Baghdad / NINA / - The Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad al-Sudani, chaired yesterday evening, Monday, a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security, in the presence of members of the Council. The meeting discussed the latest security developments, the most important challenges, and ways to confront them.

 

Major General Yahia Rasool Abdullah, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, said in a statement that during the meeting, they discussed approving Iraq's accession to the international database at the United Nations on lost and stolen weapons in Iraq and the world, with the aim of controlling this type of weapon.

 

He added that, in another axis, the Council discussed the issue of the entry of Arab and foreign hunters into the country during the hunting season, and appropriate decisions were taken in this regard.

 

He added that the council listened to a detailed briefing on the visit of the Iraqi delegation, headed by Defense Minister Thabet Muhammad al-Abbasi, to Washington at the invitation of the US Secretary of Defense.

 

He explained that the council has briefed a review of the joint dialogue between the two countries, which dealt with bilateral security cooperation within the strategic framework agreement, the shape of the future relationship between Iraq and the international coalition to combat terrorism, the Iraqi delegation's emphasis on the constants related to Iraq's sovereignty, the growing capabilities of its various types of armed forces and its carrying out tasks in protecting security stability and securing the country's borders. Moreover, the delegation presented the Iraqi point of view during the course of the dialogue regarding the absence of the need for the presence of any foreign combat forces on Iraqi soil.

 

The statement indicated that after briefing the Council on the course of the dialogue, the Council approved the agreement of the Iraqi delegation with the American side to form a joint supreme committee with the international coalition, to start implementing the outcomes of the joint dialogue.

 

In this context, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces directed the Chief of Staff of the Army to communicate with the leadership of the International Coalition in Iraq to carry out the work of the bilateral committee.

 

The Council appreciated the efforts of the Iraqi delegation and its emphasis on the integration of Iraqi security capabilities, and preserving the requirements of Iraqi sovereignty in all its aspects. / End
