UN Launches Partnership in Face of Climate Change
Doha, December 5 (QNA) The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat and The Climate Group announced today the establishment of a strategic partnership aimed at encouraging joint leadership between governments and business institutions, through integrating their initiative efforts in raising awareness.
The initiatives are 'The Clean Revolution' by The Climate Group and 'Momentum for Change' by the UNFCCC secretariat.
Executive Director of the UNFCCC Christiana Figueres spoke about climate change in a statement on the occasion highlighting the need for showing that working towards challenging climate change through adaptation and mitigation alike is underway in reality.
It is making a difference for people and the environment, she said, adding that success stories in lowering carbon need to be told to a larger audience for wider and faster action.
For his part, The Climate Group’s Chief Executive Officer Mark Kenber expressed his happiness over the partnership with the UNFCCC secretariat on climate change.
The Assembly and Group plan on supporting each other through this partnership in successfully implementing the two campaigns. More specifically, on ensuring corporate and government leaders abide by transformation procedures towards decreasing carbon.
'The Clean Revolution' is a partnership of international statesmen and governments, business leaders and corporations, thinkers and opinion formers. It is coordinated by The Climate Group. It calls for a swift, massive scale-up of clean energy and infrastructure, and of smart technologies and design.
The UNFCCC secretariat has developed the concept of 'Momentum for Change' as a way to demonstrate the multiple benefits of addressing climate change and to transform misperceptions surrounding taking action on climate change. (QNA)
