UN Climate Change COP18 to End on Positive Note-Qatari Official

Doha, December 05 (QNA) -Member of the higher organizing committee of the UN Climate Change COP18, HE Fahd Bin Mohamed Al Attiyah has said he is optimistic over the climate change negotiations in Doha. ""All the negotiations are characterized with a positive spirit, judging from the resolutions reached that will be conducive to mitigating the impact of climate change, '' he told QNA on the sidelines of the conference. In the next two days participants will agree on a roadmap and a working plan for the negotiations, he said. He admitted the existence of some differences in views, however he said this does not mean that the Doha negotiations will conclude without ambitious resolutions or that they are not on the right track. Referring to some pessimistic views expressed by civil society organizations and environment activists excluding an effective outcome , Al Attiyah said such voices could be viewed as a "pressure tool, or a positive warning,'' in order to expedite the negotiations and not to delay the resolutions that should commit countries to take decisive measures to solve the problems of climate change. He said an agreement acceptable to all will be reached in the remaining 48 hours of the conference. (QNA)
