UAE Environment Minister Says COP18 Rounds off GCC Efforts

Doha, December 06 (QNA) - UAE Minister of Environment and Water Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad said Qatar's hosting of the UN climate change conference (COP18) has culminated the efforts of GCC states and their cooperation with the international community in the different climate change issues. Speaking to QNA on Thursday, Fahad said his country always supports global efforts and reaffirms the significance of group work to reach solutions for the climate change issue. He added that with negotiators in Doha, there is hope of reaching positive results, noting that this is a step forward just likes the Cancun and Durban conferences. UAE and other GCC states have made great efforts in reducing emissions, the minister Fahad said, noting that only about 0.003 percent of emissions come from the GCC region. The Emirati official noted that his country has taken major steps to reduce emissions by using renewable energy, adding that the UAE and the other Gulf countries boost a strong track record in green initiatives.
