Thailand's preparations for New Year celebrations
BANGKOK, December 28 (TNA) - People across Thailand are now happily preparing New Year celebrations with their families, relatives and friends.
The number of mails and parcels that staffs at post offices in Phichit Province in the Lower Thai North are handling, for instance, has doubled to over 10,000 pieces daily, as people are now actively sending their New Year wishes to nationwide destinations. Thailand's post offices will be closed from December 31, 2011 to January 3, 2012 for New Year holidays.
Cakes and cookies of Suphan Buri Vocational Education College have received a warm welcome from consumers, as the products are available at discounted prices, shoring up their orders to over 300,000 baht daily. The college has produced about 3.5 tonnes of cookies and students have taken the opportunity to apply their knowledge to do business.
Land transport officials and police in Buri Ram Province in the Northeast, meanwhile, have offered traffic training to about 100 voluntary students from five schools, who will then assist in provincial traffic control for road safety during the New Year festival.
Authorities of Phitsanulok Province in the Lower Thai North, on the other hand, have opened an operation centre to campaign for road safety during the New Year festival and have also launched ambulances, rescue units and fire engines, vowing that they will strictly impose traffic rules during the New Year festival.
