Thai soldiers secure border after clash with drug traffickers
BANGKOK, January 24 (TNA) - Heavily-armed Thai soldiers of the Pha Muang Task Force have continued securing the Thai-Myanmar border in Mae Fah Luang District of Thailand's northern Chiang Rai Province, after a clash with unidentified drug traffickers two days ago killed a Thai police officer.
The clash erupted when some 15 armed men crossed the border from Baan Pha Khao Village in the Myanmar side and attacked Thai police of the Mae Fah Luang Station at their border checkpoint, killing one Thai police officer and injuring a colleague. Two attackers were also killed and about six others were injured in the same incident.
Colonel Thanadpol Kosaisevi, commander of the 3rd Ad Hoc Cavalry Unit of the Pha Muang Task Force, said Tuesday that he will discuss the violent clash with Myanmar’s Colonel Khin Maung So at the upcoming Thai-Myanmar local border committee meeting in Chiang Rai on January 25 to jointly work out a solution.
