Thai Cabinet mulls additional assistance to flood victims

BANGKOK, December 23 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Finance is proposing to the Cabinet for additional financial assistance for the country's flood victims. Finance Minister Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala told reporters that his ministry's new proposal is an income tax break for those affected by floods, with all of them to be officially financed for post-flood repair costs of no more than 100,000 baht each when they file their income tax forms with the Revenue Department from January 1 to March 31, 2012. Thirachai said that the proposal will be submitted for the Thai Cabinet's consideration and approval on December 27, and that details of the new financial aid package will be publicly announced by his ministry's Revenue Department after the proposal is approved by the Cabinet. The finance minister said, meanwhile, that car owners whose damaged cars are not covered by insurance policies can also claim for repairs of no more than 30,000 baht each. (TNA)
