Revolutionary Members in Syrian National Council Up 33% Upon Reshuffle
Doha, November 06 (QNA) - Syrian National Council (SNC) on Tuesday disclosed the results of its members reshuffle which resulted in a 33% increase in the representation of the revolutionary movement group members in addition to the joining of other 32 political faction members.
The Meeting of the SNC, currently held in Doha, revealed that women representation of the council also went up to 15% as well as the joining of another 25 political coalitions forming up to 45% of the SNC.
According to the results, minorities represent 25% of the council whereas the new members joining the council represent 52% of the total SNC members.
SNC legal expert, Hisham Marwan presented the targets behind the council's reshuffle plan as increasing the presence of the revolutionary movement figures and their powers as well as boosting democracy. He said this would come through the shifting into a vote system to choose the leading figures instead of a general agreement system.
He said the four main pillars of the reshuffle are the implementation of a democratic framework among the SNC via the adoption of a vote system, putting more focus on revolutionary powers, boosting women representation within the council, and making more room for decision- making. (QNA)
