Returning of name of great scientists and philosopher

Pavlodar, 20 August 2008, (Khabar) - 150th anniversary of Mashkhur-Zhusup Kopeyev. Celebrations timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Mashkhur-Zhusup Kopeyev have begun in the Pavlodar region.

The name of the man whose extraordinary encyclopaedic knowledge helped to heal people had been in oblivion for a long time.

Most of his works have been destroyed and scientists now have to reconstruct his creative heritage piece by piece. A huge yurt town has been set up in the Yeskeldy tract, where Kopeyev spent most of his life. Thousands of pilgrims come to the town every year. A new mausoleum was built on a hill near his grave ahead of the festivities devoted to his 150th anniversary. His old mausoleum was destroyed during the Soviet regime. Over 15 thousand people have come to the Yeskeldy area forprayer and as a token of respect for their great ancestor.

Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed, Minister for Culture and Information of RK: - The president of Kazakhstan has asked us to carry out these anniversary celebrations. We also plan to publish the full collection of works written by this outstanding scientist as part of the "Madeni Mura" program. We havealready published 11 volumes.

Mashkhur-Zhusup was a well-educated and versatile person. He was interested in literature, philosophy, medical sciences and astronomy. A knowledge of languages, including Persian and the Chagatai, helped him to study the heritage of ancient Eastern scientists. Mashkhur-Zhusup's articles were published in newspapers until the purges of the 1920s. However, scientists at the Sultanmakhmur Toraigyrov University say the purges made him even stronger. In the world of science his works are valued on a par with Al-Farabi, Dulati and Hodzha Akhmet Yassaui. His manuscripts have recentlybeen found in Istanbul.
