Renowned Iran Musician Performs Concert In Lotfi’s Memory
Tehran, Aug 9, IRNA - Hossein Alizadeh, a prominent Iranian musician and virtuoso on the traditional instrument ‘tar’, performed a concert in Gorgan on Thursday.
According to Saturdayˈs edition of ˈIran Dailyˈ, the concert was held in memory of the late musician Mohammad Reza Lotfi, who was also a ‘tar’ and ‘setar’ virtuoso. It was held at the city’s Fakhreddin As’ad Hall.
Vocalist Saeid Mohammadi accompanied Alizadeh in the concert by performing memorable pieces of Persian traditional music in systems such as ‘Nava’.
Ali Boustani, Siamak Jahangiri, Sina Jahanabadi, Saba Alizadeh, Radman Tavakkoli and Siavash Borhani were among the group members. Alizadeh is one of the most influential contemporary musicians in Iran.
Mohammad Reza Lotfi is widely known to have revolutionized Persian traditional music through his innovative approach of combining the classical with folk elements and introducing a new vitality into the Persian music.
Between 1978 and 1980, Lotfi became the chairman of the School of Music at Tehran University and also served as the director of the Center for the Preservation and Propagation of Traditional Iranian Music and the Chavosh Conservatory.
Formed by Iranian music icons, including Hossein Alizadeh, Mohammad Reza Shajarian, Parviz Meshkatian, Ali Akbar Shekarchi, Shahram Nazeri, Houshang Ebtehaj, etc., Chavosh Conservatory is considered as a monumental turning point in the history of Persian music.
Lotfi also held numerous concerts in Iran and across the world. He passed away in May 2014 at the age of 68 after a long battle with cancer./end
