Qatargas Project Crosses 10 Million Man-Hours Safely

Doha, November 20 (QNA) - The Qatargas Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery (JBOG) Project achieved a major safety milestone of completing ten million man-hours without any lost time injury (LTI), the company announced here Tuesday. Commenting on this milestone, Qatargas Chief Executive Officer HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani said, "Safety is a core value at Qatargas and an integral part of our culture at every level. I commend all those who were involved in this achievement which is a true testament to the commitment and dedication of the project team and the contractors to embrace the strong safety culture spread across our organisation." "Our aim is to ensure that everyone goes home safely, every day. We will continue our focus on safety and ensure that all our operations and projects are executed to the highest safety standards, HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani added in an address released in the Qatargas'press released issued here Tuesday. It is worth to mention that around 3,000 people from around the world are working on the project which aims to recover gas currently being flared during Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) ship loading at the Port of Ras Laffan. For his part, HE Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer, Engineering & Ventures, said: "Ten million man-hours without LTI is a remarkable milestone for the JBOG project, reflecting our commitment to ensuring that the safety of our people remains our highest priority". Elaborating the Qatargas Chief Operating Officer, said in a similar address," Our Incident and Injury Free (IIF) programme which has improved the safety behaviour of everybody on the Project has been a major contributing factor towards this achievement. The JBOG Project has created a culture in which safety is a core value, shared by us and all our contractors. Congratulations to the project team on this outstanding achievement," HE Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al Thani added. It is noted that the construction activities on the JBOG Project started in 2010. The project, which is part of the Common Facilities Projects at Ras Laffan Industrial City in the north of Qatar, will enable boiled-off gas to be collected from LNG ships and compressed at a central facility. The compressed gas will then be sent to the LNG producers to be consumed as fuel or converted back into LNG. When fully operational, the JBOG project will recover the equivalent of some 0.6 million tonnes per year of LNG, which is sufficient natural gas to power more than 300,000 homes. (QNA)
