Qatar University Honors Top Students
Doha, December 03 (QNA) - The achievements of some 159 distinguished Qatar University students were honored in a ceremony held at Katara today.
A total of 150 students were celebrated for their outstanding academic performance, while 11 of those received the Award of Excellence, each having scored a GPA of 3.94 or more. A further nine students were congratulated for their exemplary non-academic achievements.
Of the top academic achievers, four were students at the College of Engineering and three from College of Business and Economics. College of Arts & Sciences had two successful students while College of Education and College of Sharia and Islamic Studies each boasted one outstanding student.
Students congratulated for their non-academic achievements included three from the College of Business and Economics, three from the College of Engineering and one from each of the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education and College of Law.
Two students in particular were praised for their leadership achievements during the academic year 2011/12. They were Faisal Mohammed Shafeea (College of Engineering) and Aysha Nasser Al-Nassr (College of Business and Economics). The award for excellence in athletics was presented to Maryam Ibrahim Al Mansouri (College of Law), while six students received Service awards Ebrahim Abdulsalam Abdi (College of Engineering), Alaa Tahsin Al Shekly (College of Business and Engineering), Zeen Mohsean Daaban (College of Engineering), Maryam Mohammed Al Kuwari (College of Arts & Sciences), Ebtesam Abdulsalam Al-Soraihi (College of Education) and Abeer Mohammed Kayyaily (College of Business and Economics).
Qatar University President Prof. Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad said: "These students' outstanding achievements, both academically and in other fields, are testament to the sheer dedication of themselves, their families and everyone at QU to achieving nothing short of their very best. We are delighted that again this year we have such a strong cohort of well-rounded and motivated students going out into the world, determined to be successful leaders in the future."
QU Vice-President for Student Affairs Dr Omar Al-Ansari said: "Everyone at QU is very proud of our distinguished students whose hard work over these last years has really paid off. Many congratulations to them all and they have our very best wishes as they enter the labour market, embodying the best of a QU education." (QNA)
