Qatar Hosts 25th Universal Postal Congress

Doha, September 23 (QNA) - The State of Qatar hosts the 25th Universal Postal Congress at Qatar National Convention Centre from September 24, 2012 to October 15, 2012. The plenipotentiaries of the 192 member countries meet to adopt a new world postal strategy. Addressing a joint press conference, held here today with Q-post head, Abdulrahman bin Ali Aqili, and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Director General, Edouard Dayan, the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, underlined the importance of hosting this event, which will discuss broad issues affecting the global postal sector today, including the Postal Strategy, noting that Doha has become an important venue for conferences. Hosting this event showcases that Qatar, which enjoys an atmosphere of freedom and openness to other cultures associated with the political will, the organizational expertise and an advanced infrastructure, is an active member of the international community, Dr. Al Kuwari explained. The congress aims to meet the new challenges for the postal environment and to bring their operating methods into line with changes in the sector, he explained, pointing to the early development of the Islamic postal system. Dr. Al Kuwari also stressed the importance of the major ministerial conference due to be held on 8 October during the 25th Universal Postal Congress. Concluding, the Minister expressed hope that the participants will meet the challenges posed by the changing postal environment, thanking HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani for sponsoring the event.
