Qatar Foundation Holds a Briefing Seminar on COP18 Conference

Doha, November 19 (QNA) - In collaboration with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the body of the Climate Change Conference (COP 18), Qatar Foundation (QF) will be holding next Thursday morning, an educational session and a "Master Class" seminar on the United Nation's largest Climate Change conference that Doha will host from the 26th November - 7th December. During the one-day seminar, a report writer from IISD's The Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB) will give a full background on COP conferences. The topics of the seminar will discuss many issues mainly the science behind the climate change negotiations, the background to the process, the important meetings and agreements, the composition and functions of the UN's framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), the participating bodies, the status of the negotiating process, potential challenges and expected. The session will take place at 9am Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) student center cinema at QF. The event offers an opportunity to people interested in environmental issues and global policy discussions to meet with members of local environmental organizations. The Climate Change Conference (COP 18), that will be held at Qatar National convention Center, is gathering up a humungous number of delegates representing the United Nation, governments, non-government and inter-government agencies, civil societies and global media to Doha. There are now 195 parties to the United Nation s climate change Kyoto Protocol taking part in conference. (QNA)
