Qatar Ends Presidency of UN General Assembly 66th Session

New York, September 18 (QNA) - The UN General Assembly concluded its 66th session here on Monday under the chairmanship of the State of Qatar. The 66th session, chaired by the State of Qatar represented by HE Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al-Nasser who presided over the session for a year since September 2011 and was succeeded in effectively leading the International Organization to face the recent challenges and conflicts. In his closing remarks before the ambassadors of the member states in the General Assembly and in the presence of the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, HE Al-Nasser reviewed the most important achievements that have been achieved during the past year. He noted to the UN General Assembly's support to the Arab Awakening through its support in restoring the legitimate rights of the Libyan authorities as well as carrying out its responsibility towards the Syrian people by the adoption of several resolutions including, appointing Joint Special Representative and condemning violence and killings carried out by the Syrian authorities. He also highlighted the main four pillars topped the 66th session, including peaceful settlement of disputes, UN reform, disaster prevention and sustainable development. Concluding, HE Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al-Nasser expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani for their great support extended to him and to the United Nations. He also took the opportunity and praised the team who worked with him during his presidency of the session. (QNA)
