Qatar Celebrates International Volunteer Day
Doha, December 05 (QNA) - Under the patronage of HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, Qatar Center for Voluntary Activities (QCVA), on Wednesday celebrated the International Volunteer Day which falls on the fifth of December of each year, under the slogan Economy and Social Development.
HE the Secretary General of the Culture Ministry Mubarak bin Nassir Al Khalifa said in a speech at the ceremony, that celebrating the World Volunteer Day reflects several values, on the top of which is recognizing the role of the volunteers in the service of humanity.
He added that the State of Qatar Under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani esteems voluntary work and respects volunteers and provide then with support, assistance and encouragement, noting the role of the volunteers towards the nation and society.
He also conveyed the greetings of HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari to all the volunteers and called on all the institutions in the country to facilitate their mission.
For his part the QCVA Secretary-General , the Secretary-General of the Arab Federation for Voluntary Activities Yousuf Ali AL-Kazim praised in his speech during the celebration, the great, ambitious and unlimited efforts of youth who pledged , to reach out for others.
He presented in his speech the key events involving young volunteers during 2012, most importantly the launch of the Arabic version of the (State of the World Volunteerism) report.
At the close of the ceremony QCVA honored a number of figures from cultural, media and educational institutions that contributed to the dissemination of the voluntary work culture. (QNA)
